A metric becomes misleading when its definition, denominator, timeframe, or exclusions are unclear. A total can hide a falling conversion rate; an average can hide a small group of extreme values; month-to-date can look strong simply because the comparison period differs.

Useful dashboards show a definition, refresh time, comparison period, and drill-down path. The goal is not more charts—it is fewer wrong decisions.

Which metric has caused the most confusion in a report you have used?
