A consistent research table prevents you from comparing strategies with different hidden assumptions. One row should represent one frozen experiment.

Suggested columns
  • Strategy version and hypothesis.
  • Universe, timeframe, and date range.
  • Entry/exit rules and parameter values.
  • Data source and timestamp policy.
  • Costs and slippage assumptions.
  • In-sample and out-of-sample metrics.
  • Maximum drawdown, turnover, trade count, and exposure.
  • Known weaknesses and next experiment.

Do not rank ideas only by total return. A strategy with fewer trades, lower drawdown, stable out-of-sample behaviour, and transparent assumptions may be more useful for future research.

Which metric do you think is most often missing from trading-strategy comparisons?
