What changed

• Uses real recent sessions and current staff role flags, including additional groups.
  
• Caches candidate IDs for two minutes; checks current invisibility/roles when rendered.
  
• Honours the viewer’s ability to see invisible users and an administrator-configurable account exclusion list.
  
• Labels its actual ten-minute activity window instead of inventing a live staff count.
  

Requirements
MyBB 1.8.40 tested; PHP 8.1+ intended (runtime tests on 8.4.26); MySQL/MariaDB; modern browser. Custom themes, external authentication, mail and provider integrations require their own staging checks.

Installation and upgrade
Back up first. Upload inc/ and jscripts/ into the MyBB root. Deactivate an older Staff Online plugin before uploading dfstaffonline.php. Install & Activate 2.0, configure excluded accounts, and verify invisible-user behaviour on staging.

Settings
Excluded user IDs: add bots and service accounts that should not be promoted. Native staff role flags determine eligibility. MySQL/MariaDB required.

Activate the plugin, visit the index after a staff account is active, and configure service/bot exclusions. The strip appears only when eligible staff are found.

Test evidence
Actual synthetic staff session displayed, ten-minute label, invisible staff hidden publicly, authorized visibility and service-account exclusion; lifecycle.
The eight-release wave passed 117 scoped assertions across PHP/MyBB, browser, HTTP and lifecycle checks. Some tests used a combined plugin context; this is not a universal compatibility certificate or an independent security audit.

Limitations / breaking changes
Shows up to 25 staff candidates. Session IDs refresh on page load with a two-minute candidate cache; this is not real-time presence. Review your staff flags and excluded service accounts. No production activation was performed.

Deactivate / uninstall
Deactivate stops the strip. Uninstall removes its settings group; the bounded cached candidate IDs are harmless and may expire or be removed during cache maintenance. No accounts are changed.

🛠️ Install — step by step

1. Download the zip below (unlocks with your vault access).
   
2. Unzip the download — every file you need is inside.
   
3. Upload df_staffonline.php to your forum's inc/plugins/ folder (FTP or cPanel File Manager).
   
4. Admin CP → Configuration → Plugins → find DF Staff Online → Install & Activate.
   
5. Done — see this README/section above for where the feature appears.
   

🧹 Uninstall
Admin CP → Plugins → DF Staff Online → Deactivate, then Uninstall — its tables/settings drop cleanly.
