An impressive demo is not enough reason to deploy an AI tool across a team. Small trials catch most problems before they become expensive habits.

A 7-day pilot checklist
  • Choose one repeated task and one owner.
  • Collect 10 representative examples, including messy edge cases.
  • Set a baseline: current time, accuracy, and review effort.
  • Decide what data must never leave your environment.
  • Test permissions, exports, integrations, and failure behaviour.
  • Require human review for important outputs during the pilot.
  • Write down the result: keep, change, or stop.

Evaluate reliability, review effort, training time, vendor lock-in, and privacy—not just time saved. What evaluation criteria would you add?
