Data documentation that people will actually keep updated

Documentation works when it is short and close to the data. For each important table, make a data card with: purpose, owner, source, refresh frequency, key fields, known limitations, and access rules.

Store it in a repository, warehouse catalogue, or shared workspace—not in an isolated document. Update it whenever the pipeline changes. “Good enough and current” beats “perfect and forgotten.”
