For every important dashboard metric, keep a short card: metric name; business question; formula; numerator and denominator; source tables; filters; time window; owner; refresh time; caveats; and example interpretation.

This card prevents “same word, different calculation” problems between teams. It also makes QA easier when a source system changes. Store it beside the dashboard or in the data catalogue where users can find it.

What metric definition would save your team the most repeated explanations?
