When UE5 was first shown with that Lumen/Nanite demo everyone lost their minds. Now in 2026, I'm seeing games actually shipping with it at scale and... it's a mixed bag?

Black Myth: Wukong looked insane but had shader stutter issues. The new Silent Hill 2 remake on PC is gorgeous but needs a 4080+ to hit 60fps at native 1440p. Meanwhile indie devs still ship on Unity or custom engines and look just as good stylistically.

Is the tech finally catching up to the marketing? Or is it still mostly sizzle reel footage?

From an engineering perspective Nanite is genuinely impressive — it solves real geometry-streaming problems that engines have struggled with for 20 years. But it still murders framerates on anything below high-end hardware.

Stylized Unity games still look great because art direction beats raw tech every time. UE5 is a tool; bad devs use it to mask bad art.
