A live strategy needs operational monitoring, not only a P&L chart. Build a dashboard that answers: is the system receiving current data, making expected decisions, and executing orders correctly?

Monitor at least:
  • Data freshness and missing symbols.
  • Signal count versus normal range.
  • Order submissions, rejects, partial fills, and latency.
  • Actual versus expected position and cash.
  • Slippage and costs versus backtest assumptions.
  • Risk-limit triggers and manual interventions.

Set alerts for system health, not just profit or loss. A silent stale feed can be more dangerous than a bad trade. Keep an audit trail so every order can be traced to data, signal, and risk decision.

What alert would have caught your most frustrating production issue earlier?
